The Kerala Local Body Polls will be held on December 9 and 11, and the State Election Commission has decided to monitor the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) closely. With AI-generated videos, images, and audio spreading online, the Commission aims to stop any misuse that could affect fair campaigning.
State Election Commissioner A. Shajahan said the Commission will appoint experts at both State and district levels. These experts will track AI-generated content and report violations. They will also work with media monitoring committees to identify fake or synthetic materials that may mislead voters.
The Commission will follow and adapt the Election Commission of India’s advisory on responsible AI use, released in October 2024. The rules demand clear labels such as “AI-generated,” “Digitally enhanced,” or “Synthetic content.” These labels must cover at least 10% of the screen or audio duration.
By enforcing these steps, the Kerala Election Commission aims to build voter trust and ensure a transparent election process. The Kerala Local Body Polls will test how effectively India can balance technology and democracy.
