Kerala SIR Flags 7.61 Lakh ‘Uncollectable’ Voter Entries in Electoral Roll

The Social Impact Review (SIR) of Kerala’s voter list has identified 7.61 lakh enumeration forms as ‘uncollectables,’ raising significant concerns about the accuracy of the State’s electoral rolls. According to official data, of the 7,61,536 voters in this category, 3,41,393 have been listed as deceased, while 88,945 have been marked as ‘untraceable’ or ‘absent.’ Another 2,79,196 individuals are believed to have permanently shifted residences.
The uncollectables category emerged during the extensive door-to-door verification process undertaken to improve the integrity of the voter database. Officials noted that non-availability of voters at registered addresses, outdated records, and migration were key reasons behind the discrepancies.
The findings are expected to prompt a major clean-up of the electoral rolls ahead of upcoming elections. Authorities have stressed the need for continuous updating and public participation to ensure accuracy. The Election Department is now reviewing the data to initiate necessary corrections and follow-up procedures.
