A heated debate took place in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council over the government’s decision to allocate land to companies at just ₹0.99 per acre. Members of the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party raised corruption allegations, claiming the policy favours big businesses unfairly.
In response, IT Minister Lokesh defended the scheme. He said such incentives are necessary to attract investments and help Andhra Pradesh compete with other States. He added that offering affordable land will create jobs, promote industrial growth, and strengthen the State’s economy.
The debate highlighted the tension between development goals and transparency concerns. Opposition members demanded stricter checks and questioned whether the policy benefits companies at the expense of public resources. The Council agreed to discuss the matter further to balance investment promotion with accountability.
