Advocate Hemant Kumar Nayak has been suspended for two years by the Odisha State Bar Council after posting derogatory content on Facebook. The posts were made using a fake profile, targeting judicial officers and the state judiciary. Nayak, who has been a member of the Bar Council since 1998, was found guilty by the disciplinary committee.
Nayak created a fake Facebook profile by slightly altering his name. He used this profile to share defamatory posts about judicial officers in Bhadrak, the state judiciary, and the Bar Council. Despite receiving multiple show-cause notices from the disciplinary committee, Nayak continued to question the authority of the Bar Council on social media.
The Bar Council deemed his actions serious enough to impose a two-year suspension. This case highlights the need for professionals to respect the judiciary, both online and offline.
