Lorry Owners Urge Government to Resolve Key Transport Sector Issues

Andhra Pradesh lorry owners have urged the state Transport Minister to address key problems affecting the road transport sector, highlighting issues such as rising fitness fees for older trucks, difficulties with Andhra-Telangana counter-signature permits and heavy penalties on out-of-state trailers. The Andhra Pradesh Lorry Owners Association (APLOA) said that steep increases in mandatory fitness and vehicle testing charges — especially for vehicles over 13–15 years old — have placed a heavy financial strain on small owners and drivers who depend on older vehicles for their livelihood. They appealed for fee reductions, regulatory changes, and streamlined permit processes to ease operational burdens and ensure smooth movement of goods across regions. Officials assured representatives that the government would consider their demands and work toward solutions, with ongoing discussions expected to continue. The lorry owners had previously threatened transport disruptions and even a statewide strike if their concerns were not addressed, underscoring the urgency of resolving these sectoral challenges.
