The Madras High Court has ordered a vigilance inquiry into allegations that a senior advocate received ₹50 lakh to pay to a Judge. The matter came to light during proceedings in the court, raising serious concerns about judicial integrity.
Justice M. Nirmal Kumar recused himself from hearing two cases related to the allegation and instructed the court Registry to bring the issue to the attention of the Chief Justice. The inquiry aims to investigate whether the senior advocate attempted to influence judicial proceedings through bribery.
Officials said the vigilance process will include examining evidence, statements, and financial records to determine if any wrongdoing occurred. The court emphasised that transparency and accountability are essential to maintain public trust in the legal system.
The Chief Justice will oversee further actions, ensuring that the investigation is independent, fair, and thorough, and that appropriate measures are taken based on the findings.
