The Magh Mela 2026 First Snan witnessed a massive turnout of devotees in Prayagraj on Saturday as pilgrims gathered to take a holy dip on the auspicious occasion of Paush Purnima. The ritual marked the formal beginning of the annual religious congregation held at the sacred Triveni Sangam.
From early morning, devotees thronged ghats across Uttar Pradesh. In Prayagraj, pilgrims offered prayers at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati. The Magh Mela 2026 First Snan holds deep spiritual significance, as devotees believe the holy dip cleanses sins and brings divine blessings.
Similarly, Ayodhya witnessed heavy footfall as devotees gathered along the banks of the Sarayu River. Chanting hymns and performing rituals, pilgrims expressed faith and devotion while participating in the sacred bath.
Saints and seers described the Magh Mela as one of Hinduism’s most sacred traditions. A sadhu said devotees visit during the Magh Mela to seek spiritual upliftment, purification and divine grace. Another saint compared its sanctity to that of the Mahakumbh.
Devotees appreciated the arrangements made by the local administration. Many said security measures, sanitation facilities and crowd management remained effective despite the heavy rush.
District Magistrate Manish Kumar Varma said the event progressed smoothly. He stated that devotees faced no inconvenience and could move easily within the Sangam area. Divisional Commissioner Saumya Agarwal also confirmed that pilgrims expressed satisfaction with the arrangements.
Authorities expect a steady inflow of pilgrims as the Magh Mela continues. The Prayagraj Magh Mela lasts for 45 days and begins on Paush Purnima, concluding on Mahashivaratri.
During the fair, devotees observe several ritual snans, including Makar Sankranti, Mauni Amavasya, Basant Panchami and Magh Purnima. Every fourth year, the Magh Mela transforms into the Kumbh Mela, and every twelfth year into the Maha Kumbh, attracting millions from across India and abroad.
