he Maharashtra Cabinet sub-committee on Other Backward Classes (OBC) has directed the administration to strictly verify caste certificates to stop the use of fake documents. The panel took this decision on September 15 during a meeting at the Mantralaya in Mumbai, led by Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule.
Bawankule stressed that authorities must thoroughly check all documents before granting caste certificates to eligible applicants. The sub-committee acted after receiving concerns about fraudulent certificates in the state.
The panel also cleared the release of ₹2,933 crore in pending funds for OBC welfare schemes. Officials will distribute the money within 15 days and review progress weekly.
In addition, the sub-committee decided to seek an extra ₹1,750 crore in supplementary demands during the December state legislature session. The request will include ₹1,000 crore for the OBC Corporation and ₹750 crore for affiliated bodies.
The panel aims to expand access to OBC benefits for those with Kunbi caste lineage and strengthen OBC reservations in jobs and education. These steps will ensure fair access to benefits and support deserving applicants.
