BJP may field folk singer Maithili Thakur from Alinagar instead of Benipatti. Though she wishes to contest from her home seat, Benipatti MLA Vinod Narayan Jha is a senior leader with a strong base. It will be tough for the BJP to deny him the ticket. Hence, there’s growing talk that the party might shift Maithili to Alinagar constituency.
Maithili, a popular singer from Mithila, has a deep connection to her region and a massive youth following. Her clean image and Brahmin background could help BJP attract upper-caste, OBC, and Dalit voters. Alinagar MLA Mishrilal Yadav, who won on Mukesh Sahni’s party ticket before rejoining BJP, may face ticket cancellation if Maithili is chosen.
BJP leaders believe Maithili Thakur’s popularity and credibility make her a strong face in Mithila politics.
