Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday claimed that more than two crore jobs have been created during the Trinamool Congress’ 14-year rule. Presenting her government’s performance report card, she said the state has consistently outperformed national averages on several socio-economic indicators.
She highlighted that West Bengal had topped national rankings in MGNREGA, rural housing, and village road construction for four consecutive years before the Centre “withheld funds”. Despite pending dues, Banerjee said the state continued its development efforts, spending ₹1 lakh crore on the Khadya Sathi food security scheme for nine crore people and ₹1,717 crore on Duare Ration.
The Chief Minister added that budget allocation for health has increased sixfold since 2011. She noted that over 2.2 crore women now benefit from the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme, while more than 99 lakh families have gained access to drinking water connections in the last 14 years.
Criticising the NDA, she alleged that “₹10,000 was distributed in Bihar before polls but bulldozers appeared after elections,” calling it politically motivated.
