A 33-year-old man from Khairthal, Rajasthan, named Jalaluddin alias “Jallu,” has been arrested in South Delhi for defrauding a senior cardiologist. He pretended to be an Army officer to win trust.
Jalaluddin contacted the doctor saying he needed consultations for 25 Army personnel at ₹1,500 each. He asked for the doctor’s UPI details under that pretext. Then he made unauthorized transactions that drained both the doctor’s and his wife’s UPI accounts—₹6.69 lakh in all.
Delhi Police filed an FIR under cheating and impersonation charges. They traced the funds. About ₹6 lakh went toward a car loan, and ₹70,000 paid off credit card bills. Police arrested Jalaluddin in Khairthal. They seized his car and three mobile phones. These phones appear linked to some 26 other complaints on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal.
Authorities said he used pre-recorded videos of Army personnel during video calls to fool victims. The police investigation continues. The scam highlights how fraudsters exploit trust and impersonation to commit cybercrime.
