Security forces in Manipur conducted major operations in Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts, seizing a variety of explosives and firearms. The most significant recovery was an improvised long-range rocket containing nearly 40 kg of explosive from Gelmol village in Churachandpur. Authorities also recovered a rocket launching stand and a battery, raising concerns about the potential use of such weapons by militant groups.
Weapons Cache in Kangpokpi
In Kangpokpi district, forces recovered a large stockpile of arms near Songlung and Gelbung villages. The items included a German rifle, two bolt-action rifles, four pull mechanism rifles, an improvised mortar, two hand grenades, detonators, and a radio set. Several other weapons were seized from Gelbung jungle, including a CMG carbine, a .303 rifle, two pistols, nine bolt-action rifles, a country-made SBBL, a locally-made grenade, three pieces of plastic explosives, and two handsets.
Officials said these recoveries represent a serious disruption to militant operations in the region. They highlighted that the improvised rocket alone could have caused massive damage if deployed.
Security Measures and Investigation
Authorities are investigating the network behind these arsenals. Police are also monitoring surrounding areas to prevent further illegal stockpiling of weapons. Security forces emphasized that these operations reinforce public safety and prevent potential attacks in sensitive districts of Manipur.
These recoveries highlight the ongoing efforts by security agencies to dismantle militant networks and ensure stability. The proactive measures demonstrate a strong commitment to maintaining law and order in the state’s hill districts. The investigation is ongoing, and more arrests are expected as authorities trace the sources and handlers of these explosives and firearms.
