Manipur Content Creator Arrested for Provocative Videos

Manipur Police arrest content creator Yumkhaibam Shantikumar for videos allegedly inciting social distrust in Imphal East

Imphal, Manipur — 25 November 2025:
The Manipur Police on Monday, November 24, arrested Yumkhaibam Shantikumar, a 25-year-old digital content creator from Tangkham Awang Leikai, Haraorou, Pangei Yangdong in Imphal East district, in a case related to provocative videos aimed at inciting mistrust among social groups.

Authorities said Shantikumar was seen interviewing random individuals while asking questions that could promote conspiracy narratives, criminal intimidation, and misinformation. Police stressed that such content could potentially disturb public harmony, especially given Manipur’s sensitivity to communal tensions.

An investigation is underway to determine whether the videos were part of a coordinated attempt to spread false information or deliberately provoke unrest. Digital devices, including smartphones and computers, along with online accounts used by the accused, have been seized for further analysis.

A senior police officer emphasised that the dissemination of provocative content online is a serious offence. “Content creators must act responsibly. Activities that jeopardise public peace or violate legal provisions will attract strict action under the law,” the officer said.

Authorities also urged the public to avoid sharing unverified or inflammatory material on social media, warning that it could escalate tensions and disrupt communal harmony. Police reiterated that maintaining law and order and public safety remains a top priority, and anyone attempting to incite social distrust will face legal action.

The arrest highlights growing concerns about the misuse of digital platforms to propagate divisive content, underlining the need for responsible online behaviour. Further updates will follow as the investigation continues.
