Maoists in Maharashtra have faced another blow with the death of two female Maoists in an encounter. The incident occurred in Gadchiroli district, where a firefight broke out during a counteroperation by the police.

On Wednesday morning, information came in that Maoists from the Gatta Local Organization Squad (LOS) had set up camp in a forest area near Modaske village in the Etapalli tehsil. Acting on this, police from Aheri, along with Gadchiroli police and the C-60 special anti-Naxal commandos, launched a combing operation. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) also coordinated the operation by setting up a cordon around the area.

During the operation, as the C-60 team ventured into the forest, Maoists opened fire indiscriminately. The police quickly responded with a counterattack. In the ensuing encounter, two female Maoists suffered severe bullet wounds and died on the spot.

The special anti-Naxal command team recovered an automatic AK-47 rifle, advanced pistols, a large quantity of ammunition, and Naxal literature from the site. Police stated that the anti-Naxal operation in the forest area near Modaske village continues.
