Marjorie Taylor Greene has announced that she will resign from Congress after losing the backing of president Donald Trump. The far-right Republican from Georgia released a video confirming her decision and said she never felt accepted in Washington. Greene won her seat in 2020 and became a high-profile supporter of Trump and the MAGA movement.
She explained that she did not want her family and voters to face a bitter primary fight. Trump withdrew his support on November 7. He then attacked Greene online the next morning, calling her a “lightweight” and a “traitor” to the Republican Party. Greene said the attacks triggered a wave of threatening messages directed at her.
She will step down on January 5, 2026. Greene also criticised Trump’s changing stance on the Jeffrey Epstein case. She said that standing up for young victims should not lead to political punishment. Her exit shows deepening divisions inside the MAGA movement. Republican leaders face internal pressure after strong Democratic victories in recent elections. Trump also met with left-leaning New York mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, adding to conservative frustration.
Greene’s resignation marks a major shift for a leading MAGA figure and signals a turbulent period ahead for the Republican Party.
