Mark Carney Calls Trump a Transformative President, Credits Him for India-Pakistan Peace

Mark Carney Calls Trump a Transformative President

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney praised former U.S. President Donald Trump during his visit to the White House, calling him a “transformative president.” Carney credited Trump for influencing global affairs, boosting NATO commitments, and even bringing peace between India and Pakistan.

“You are a transformative president,” Carney told Trump in the Oval Office. He highlighted Trump’s role in calming tensions not only in South Asia but also in regions like Armenia-Azerbaijan and the Middle East. Trump nodded in agreement as Carney spoke.

Trump has often claimed that he personally brokered peace between India and Pakistan after their military standoff in May. India, however, denies this. New Delhi insists that the ceasefire happened only after Pakistan’s military requested it following India’s strikes.

This was Carney’s second White House visit since becoming prime minister in March. His trip came at a sensitive time, with the U.S.-Mexico-Canada trade pact under review and ongoing tariff disputes over steel, aluminium, lumber, and cars. Trump joked about annexing Canada as the “51st state,” to which Carney laughed off the remark.

Despite the warm words, both leaders left without firm trade agreements. Carney said he remained confident Canada would “get the right deal” in future talks.
