MEA Launches Upgraded Passport Seva Programme, Introduces E-Passports
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Wednesday unveiled an upgraded version of the Passport Seva Programme (PSP V2.0), describing it as a major step toward modernising India’s passport services. The new system integrates advanced technology to enhance transparency, efficiency, and user convenience. Alongside the rollout, the MEA announced the introduction of e-passports embedded with secure chips containing biometric data, which will strengthen identity verification and reduce fraud. Officials said the upgraded platform will offer faster processing, improved grievance redressal, and seamless coordination between the MEA and state police systems. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar called the initiative a “significant milestone,” highlighting its role in advancing digital governance and public service delivery. The Ministry also plans to expand service centres to ensure easier access for citizens across the country.
