MediaTek Plans Chip Manufacturing in India

MediaTek chip India plans to manufacture semiconductors locally to strengthen supply chains and cut costs.

Taiwanese chipmaker MediaTek has announced plans to produce semiconductors in India once fabrication facilities are ready. The move aligns with India’s goal to become a semiconductor hub.

Anku Jain, Managing Director of MediaTek India, said local production will reduce costs, shorten supply chains, and strengthen resilience. MediaTek works with global smartphone brands including Xiaomi, Samsung, Oppo, and Vivo.

The company follows a fabless model, focusing on chip design and software development while outsourcing manufacturing to TSMC, Intel Foundry Services, and GlobalFoundries. MediaTek’s decision is backed by India’s $10-billion semiconductor incentive package.

MediaTek recently unveiled its flagship Dimensity 9500 chipset with advanced AI, gaming, and energy efficiency features. The company is also collaborating with TSMC to develop a next-generation SoC for production late next year.
