Microsoft Secures $9.7 Billion Deal with IREN for NVIDIA Chips
Microsoft has signed a $9.7 billion contract with IREN to secure NVIDIA GB300 AI chips for its growing artificial-intelligence operations. The agreement includes a 20% prepayment from Microsoft, which IREN said will partly fund a related $5.8 billion purchase deal with Dell Technologies for chips and infrastructure.
The chips will be deployed at IREN’s 750‑megawatt data‑centre campus in Childress, Texas, in phases through 2026. The project features liquid‑cooled data centres supporting roughly 200 megawatts of critical IT load.
This strategic partnership allows Microsoft to expand its AI compute capacity without building new data centres, helping the company address rising demand for AI processing and accelerate cloud-based AI services. The deal also reflects broader industry efforts to secure advanced chip supplies amid global competition for high-performance AI hardware.
