Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Minister Atchannaidu has assured that the government is taking steps to safeguard tomato farmers from losses. Addressing the issue, he explained that due to the extended Dasara holidays, Pattikonda market received an additional 10 tonnes of tomatoes on top of the usual 40 tonnes.
However, he alleged that certain individuals deliberately dumped Grade-2 quality tomatoes in the market in an attempt to create confusion and unrest among farmers. Despite this disruption, the minister clarified that tomato prices in the market are ranging between ₹9 and ₹18 per kilogram, depending on quality.
He further stated that arrangements are being made to divert the excess produce to processing units, ensuring that farmers get fair value for their crops. Atchannaidu criticized those attempting to mislead farmers and create unnecessary panic, emphasizing that the government remains committed to stabilizing prices and protecting agricultural livelihoods.
