A major twist has emerged in the disappearance of Sarabjit Kaur, the Sikh woman who went missing from a jatha visiting Pakistan. New information indicates that she has converted to Islam and adopted the name Noor Hussain. A purported nikah certificate from a mosque in Sheikhupura has surfaced, suggesting she married a local man with her reported consent.
Investigative teams from both India and Pakistan have been reviewing her background and movements. Their goal is to understand how she separated from the 1,932-member jatha that travelled to Pakistan on November 4 for the Parkash Purab of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
Immigration records confirm she crossed into Pakistan with the group via the Attari border. After ten days of visiting historic gurdwaras, the jatha returned to India. However, only 1,922 pilgrims came back. Sarabjit was missing when the final headcount was completed.
Authorities are now examining the circumstances that allowed her to remain in Pakistan and the process that led to her religious conversion and marriage.
