Mizoram Gets Its First Rajdhani Express, Connecting to Delhi.
In a landmark moment for the Northeast, Mizoram has been connected to the national capital by its first-ever Rajdhani Express. The train, flagged off today from Sairang—a newly developed rail terminal near Aizawl—will run weekly to Anand Vihar Terminal in Delhi.
This is the first time a Rajdhani Express will serve the state, marking a major step in improving long-distance rail connectivity for Mizoram. Regular services will begin from September 19, with the route expected to significantly ease travel for students, professionals, and traders.
The train comes equipped with modern facilities including improved seating, onboard catering, and enhanced safety features. Travel time between Delhi and Mizoram will be greatly reduced, offering a more comfortable and faster option compared to existing modes of transport.
The launch is part of the Centre’s broader push to improve infrastructure in the Northeast. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a virtual address, highlighted the importance of linking remote regions with high-speed rail to drive development, tourism, and integration.
With this addition, all eight Northeastern states now have direct express or premium train services, symbolizing growing national connectivity and focus on inclusive growth.
