Punjab’s Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections begin today with nominations open till December 4. However, elections will not be held in 15 villages recently merged into the Mohali Municipal Corporation.
The Rural Development and Panchayats Department informed the State Election Commission that, as per the Local Government Department’s notification dated 28.11.2025, these 15 adjoining villages have now been officially included in Mohali MC limits.
Due to this merger, the Panchayat Samiti, Mohali’s 15 gram panchayats have been removed from the jurisdiction of Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad Mohali. The department clarified that boundaries of both bodies have significantly changed and require complete reorganisation.
On the recommendation of the Rural Development Department and Mohali Deputy Commissioner, the Commission has postponed elections for members of Panchayat Samiti Mohali and Zila Parishad Mohali until restructuring is completed.
However, elections in Panchayat Samiti Derabassi, Kharar, and Majri will continue as per the existing schedule.
