Mormugao Sewer Upgrade Works Launched on Thursday as MLA Sankalp Amonkar kicked off a major ₹3 crore project at Headland Sada. The event drew councillor Shraddha Amonkar and many local residents. The first paragraph highlights how Mormugao Sewer Upgrade Works Launched and why this project matters for the coastal constituency.
Amonkar said this was his first inauguration as chairman of the Goa Sewerage and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (SIDCGL). The work will run at 10 locations at the same time, and the contractor must finish the job within four months.
Teams already completed surveys in Jetty, Baina and nearby areas. More works will begin in the next three months. Amonkar explained that the main sewage pipelines from Sada to Desterro and then to the Baina plant are 35 to 40 years old. These ageing lines choke often and overflow during heavy rain.
To solve the issue, SIDCGL proposed an ₹80 crore project to replace the entire stretch. Amonkar aims to finish the work before the upcoming elections to bring relief to residents.
He also plans to upgrade the Baina sewage treatment plant and seven pumping stations. He warned that strict action will follow against illegal sewage lines dumping waste into the sea.
