MP Cough Syrup Tragedy: Death Toll Rises to 22, CM Mohan Yadav Blames Tamil Nadu Officials
The death toll from the suspected toxic cough syrup tragedy in Madhya Pradesh has risen to 22, prompting sharp criticism from Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, who has questioned the role of Tamil Nadu authorities in licensing the pharmaceutical company involved. The contaminated syrup, reportedly manufactured by a Tamil Nadu-based firm, was distributed in several parts of MP, leading to widespread health complications and fatalities, particularly among children.
Speaking in Bhopal, Yadav demanded a thorough regulatory investigation into the company’s operations and called on the Union Health Ministry to intervene. He alleged lapses in Tamil Nadu’s drug control and licensing systems, which, he claimed, enabled substandard medicines to enter the market.
The incident has sparked nationwide concern over pharmaceutical oversight, as officials race to recall the product and provide treatment to affected patients. Legal and regulatory action is expected to follow.
