Mumbai to Be Slum-Free in 7 Years: Fadnavis Unveils Roadmap Ahead of BMC Polls

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis unveils roadmap to make Mumbai slum-free in 7 years

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced a comprehensive roadmap to make Mumbai to be slum-free within seven years. He unveiled the plan while addressing a public rally in Kandivali ahead of the BMC Elections 2026.

During his speech, Fadnavis highlighted the achievements of the Mahayuti government, citing urban development projects and infrastructural initiatives. He criticised the opposition alliance of Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS, claiming they failed to address housing issues in the past.

The Chief Minister said the government is committed to providing adequate housing, improving sanitation, and upgrading urban infrastructure. “Our vision is to ensure every citizen of Mumbai has access to proper housing within seven years,” he said.

Fadnavis also spoke about a coastal road project aimed at easing traffic congestion on the Western Expressway. He said the project is underway and expected to be completed by 2028. The CM noted that the road will improve connectivity, reduce travel time, and support the city’s growing transport needs.

Political analysts noted that Fadnavis’ announcement comes as a major poll strategy ahead of the BMC elections. They said the slum-free initiative is aimed at urban voters concerned about housing, traffic, and quality of life.

Officials said the government plans to collaborate with urban development agencies, private developers, and civic bodies to implement the slum redevelopment projects. They emphasised that monitoring and community involvement will be key to meeting the seven-year target.

Fadnavis concluded by urging citizens to support the ruling alliance in the upcoming elections, claiming that continuity in governance is essential to achieve the ambitious slum-free target.
