Namo Bharat Surpasses Vande Bharat as India’s Fastest Train at 160 Kmph

Namo Bharat train speeding on Delhi-Meerut corridor, India’s fastest train at 160 kmph

India’s rail network reached a new milestone as the Namo Bharat train on the Delhi–Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) officially became the fastest train in the country. Running at 160 kilometres per hour, it has now surpassed the iconic Vande Bharat Express, which operates at a maximum speed of 130–140 kmph on most routes.

The Namo Bharat project, part of the larger RRTS initiative, aims to revolutionize daily commuting in the National Capital Region (NCR). Designed with advanced European Train Control System (ETCS) Level-2 signalling, aerodynamic coaches, and superior braking technology, the train ensures both safety and speed.

Officials highlighted that the high-speed operations on the Delhi–Meerut stretch will cut travel time drastically. What used to take over two hours by road will soon be reduced to less than one hour, offering commuters a reliable, eco-friendly, and world-class travel option.

The launch of Namo Bharat as the country’s fastest train also reflects India’s push towards adopting modern mobility solutions. Unlike conventional trains, it operates as a rapid regional service, connecting city centres with surrounding towns at speeds usually seen in advanced metro rail systems abroad.

Railway experts say that while Vande Bharat transformed intercity travel with comfort and modern amenities, Namo Bharat takes the next step by combining speed, capacity, and efficiency for daily travellers. Its success on the Delhi–Meerut corridor will serve as a model for other RRTS corridors planned across the country, including the Delhi–Alwar and Delhi–Panipat routes.

For passengers, the achievement isn’t just about speed – it means shorter commutes, reduced congestion, and cleaner transport. With Namo Bharat setting new benchmarks, India is accelerating into a new era of rail travel.
