Nandini Chakravorty has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of West Bengal. She becomes the first woman to hold the top bureaucratic post in the state.

The state government issued the appointment order on Wednesday. Chakravorty replaced Manoj Pant, who was due to retire on June 30. The government had earlier granted Pant a six-month service extension till December 31.

Before her elevation, Chakravorty served as the state’s Home Secretary. Following her move, senior IAS officer Jagdish Prasad Meena has taken over as the new Home Secretary.

Manoj Pant has now been appointed as Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister. He will continue in the rank of Chief Secretary, according to official notifications.

The government also announced several other administrative changes. Atri Bhattacharya, Additional Chief Secretary of the Sundarban Affairs Department, received additional charge as Director General of the Netaji Subhas Administrative Training Institute.

Barun Kumar Ray, Additional Chief Secretary of the Renewable Energy Department, will now also oversee the Tourism Department. Surendra Gupta was given additional charge as Divisional Commissioner of the Presidency Division.

The reshuffle reflects a broader administrative reorganisation aimed at improving governance efficiency.
