Tensions erupted in a village near Gorakhpur on Tuesday when a confrontation broke out between villagers and alleged cattle smugglers. The violence resulted in the death of a 20-year-old NEET aspirant and left one suspect critically injured. Senior police officers also sustained injuries after being pelted with stones when they tried to intervene.
The incident began when villagers tried to rescue a suspect who was being attacked by the smugglers. The situation quickly escalated when the villagers blocked a key road and clashed with the police.
The police confirmed that the NEET aspirant died from a severe head injury and denied reports that he had been shot. Authorities have registered a case against six suspects, all believed to be involved in cattle smuggling.
The violence intensified when villagers captured one of the smugglers, set his vehicle on fire, and attacked him. As police arrived to rescue the injured suspect, villagers clashed with them, throwing stones at the officers. Authorities have dispatched additional forces to restore order.
