NEET Student Death Case: Court Questions CBI Silence Over Manish Ranjan’s Jail Stay

NEET student death case court hearing in Patna

A court in Patna raised tough questions in the NEET student death case and asked why the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) stayed inactive for nearly 20 days. The judge also asked who is responsible for keeping hostel owner Manish Ranjan in jail during this period.

The hearing took place in a special POCSO court while considering Manish Ranjan’s regular bail plea. He owns the building where Shambhu Girls’ Hostel operates. The case relates to the suspicious death of a NEET aspirant earlier this year.

During the hearing, the court noted that the SIT had already handed over all case documents to the CBI. Yet the agency reportedly took no action for 20 days in the NEET student death case. The judge asked whether officials knew that Manish Ranjan was still in jail and questioned who would take responsibility for the delay.

The court also expressed concern over the slow pace of the investigation. It said agencies must act quickly in sensitive cases involving students.
