Nepal Gen Z protests turned deadly on Tuesday, leaving former prime minister Jhalanath Khanal’s wife, Rajyalaxmi Chitrakar, dead. Protesters trapped her inside their home in Kathmandu’s Dallu area and set it on fire. She was rushed to Kirtipur Burn Hospital but died during treatment, according to family members. Nepal Gen Z protests have shaken the Himalayan nation for days.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli also resigned on Tuesday after demonstrators set fire to his house and other leaders’ homes. Oli faced growing anger after his government briefly banned social media platforms like Facebook, X, and YouTube. The ban was lifted, but the protests intensified.

During the unrest, Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel was chased and brutally beaten in the streets, a video showed. Police fired on protesters, killing 19 people. Demonstrators also torched the parliament building, and Kathmandu airport was shut down as army helicopters airlifted ministers to safety.

Many young protesters say they are tired of corruption and the privileged lives of political leaders’ children, known as “Nepo Kids.” Despite the government reversing the ban, Nepal Gen Z protests continue, forcing India to advise citizens to avoid travel to Nepal.
