New Railway Fares Hike has come into effect from today, making long-distance train travel slightly more expensive. Indian Railways revised passenger fares for journeys beyond 215 kilometres.

The increase applies to general, mail, express, and AC classes. Local train passengers and monthly pass holders will not face any change. Railways said the hike remains minimal to avoid burdening passengers.

For general class travel beyond 215 kilometres, fares have increased by one paise per kilometre. Non-AC mail and express tickets now cost two paise more per kilometre. AC class fares have also risen by two paise per kilometre.

This means a passenger travelling 500 kilometres in a non-AC coach will pay only ₹10 extra. Railways clarified that journeys under 215 kilometres will continue at existing rates. Daily commuters in Delhi-NCR and nearby regions will not feel any impact.

Railway officials said the revision helps manage rising operational costs. They added that freight earnings support infrastructure, safety, and service improvements. Passenger fares were adjusted carefully to balance affordability and sustainability.

Travellers planning long-distance trips should factor in the revised rates. Short-distance passengers can travel without worry. Indian Railways stressed that the fare hike stays limited and passenger-friendly, keeping common travellers in mind.
