C.L. John addressing the gathering during the Ngada Festival celebration in Tseminyu, Nagaland.

Nagaland’s vibrant cultural spirit was on full display as Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change and Village Guards, C.L. John, attended the second day of the Ngada Festival in Tseminyu on November 28. The minister emphasised that the Ngada Festival Nagaland celebration has evolved from a traditional tribal gathering into a symbol of unity, peace and coexistence shaped by the influence of Christianity.

Addressing the gathering, C.L. John said Nagaland’s diverse languages and customs reflect its rich cultural heritage, yet internal divisions and “isms” continue to challenge true unity. He urged the community to overcome these barriers, noting that harmony can flourish only when Naga tribes stand together with mutual respect.

He also praised Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio for envisioning the “Festival of Festivals,” which has helped showcase Naga identity on the global cultural map. Stressing the power of faith, John called on citizens to keep Christianity at the centre of their community life, describing it as the foundation of unity and reconciliation.

DPDB chairman and Tseminyu MLA Ar. Jwenga Seb, who hosted the celebration, highlighted the cultural vibrancy of Ngada and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding indigenous traditions. He underlined the need for strong leadership and continued development to shape the future of Tseminyu.

Earlier, Rengma Hoho president Er. Tesinlo Semy welcomed participants and reminded them that Ngada represents thanksgiving, harmony and the collective identity of the Rengma community.

Leaders such as Angami Public Organization president Thejao Vihienuo and Sümi Hoho president Dr. Vihuto Asumi extended greetings, stressing inter-tribal solidarity and encouraging the Rengma people to preserve their heritage while strengthening bonds with other Naga tribes.
