NGO Urges Telangana CM to Fast-Track SCB–GHMC Merger
An NGO has urged the Telangana Chief Minister to expedite the long-pending merger of the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). The organisation asked the State government to quickly send a positive recommendation to the Union Ministry of Defence so the process can move forward.
According to the NGO, merging SCB’s civilian areas with GHMC is crucial for improving civic amenities, infrastructure and overall service delivery. Residents in these areas have long faced issues such as inadequate water supply, stalled development works and delays in addressing basic civic problems. Many have consistently demanded that the merger be completed, pointing out that administrative gaps and the absence of elected representatives have slowed progress.
The appeal comes at a time when the government has already approved mergers of other urban-local bodies with GHMC, signalling a broader effort to strengthen and streamline urban governance in Hyderabad.
