A Nigerian man who had been living in India illegally for more than ten years has been deported from Hyderabad. The Hyderabad Narcotic Enforcement Wing (H-NEW), along with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), carried out the operation.
The man, identified as 43-year-old Johnkennedy Chukwuemeka Okoro from Imo State, Nigeria, first arrived in Mumbai in 2012 on a business visa. After his visa expired, he continued to move between Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Police said he used several aliases, including “Hopy Cup” and “Jeksa.”
Acting on a tip-off, H-NEW officers detained him in the Asif Nagar area. Though no drugs were found during his arrest, investigators suspect he was involved in drug trafficking to make quick money. Officials verified his identity and arranged his deportation back to Nigeria.
Authorities said the swift action prevented him from continuing illegal activities harmful to public safety.
Since its formation, H-NEW has deported over 22 foreign nationals involved in visa violations and drug-related offenses. The agency has urged citizens to report drug activity or illegal foreign residents at 8712661601. Parents have also been asked to watch their children’s activities to keep them away from drugs.
