NITI Aayog Member Advocates Improved Market Access for Rural Women
A NITI Aayog member has stressed the need to enhance rural women’s access to markets to boost their economic participation and livelihoods. Speaking in Hyderabad, the member highlighted that despite their significant contribution to agriculture, handicrafts, and small-scale enterprises, rural women often face challenges in reaching buyers, securing fair prices, and accessing timely market information.
The member urged governments and private stakeholders to implement measures such as digital marketplaces, better transportation infrastructure, and skill-development programs tailored for women entrepreneurs. Strengthening cooperatives and self-help groups was also recommended to enable collective bargaining and improve market linkages.
Emphasising financial inclusion, the NITI Aayog representative called for easier access to credit and insurance products, enabling rural women to scale their businesses sustainably. These interventions, according to the member, would not only empower women economically but also contribute to broader rural development, poverty reduction, and inclusive growth across the country.
