Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday announced a one-time allowance of ₹25,000 for over 10,000 ‘Vikas Mitras’. These workers operate in villages to ensure SCs and STs access government scheme benefits. The tablets purchased with this allowance will help them store and manage beneficiary data efficiently. Nitish Kumar emphasized that empowering Vikas Mitras will strengthen welfare delivery across rural areas.
The CM also increased the transportation allowance for Vikas Mitras from ₹1,900 to ₹2,500 per month and raised the stationery allowance from ₹900 to ₹1,500 per month. Nitish Kumar reiterated the importance of supporting these frontline workers, noting that their role is crucial for connecting marginalized communities to government programs.
Additionally, the government will provide ₹10,000 each to more than 30,000 Shiksha Sevaks and Talimi Markaz to purchase smartphones. These educators help children from Mahadalit, minority, and extremely backward communities access formal schooling. Teaching material funding per centre will also increase from ₹3,405 to ₹6,000 per year.
Nitish Kumar announced these measures ahead of Bihar Assembly elections, highlighting his government’s commitment to uplifting deprived sections. The initiative aims to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of field-level welfare workers.
