Hyderabad: Telangana Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy strongly countered former minister T. Harish Rao’s allegations that the state government remained inactive despite the Centre’s letter on reviewing the Banakacharla project DPR. Dismissing Harish’s remarks as baseless and politically motivated, Uttam asserted that the Congress government will not compromise on Telangana’s water rights under any circumstances.

He accused the previous BRS regime under K. Chandrashekar Rao of neglecting the state’s irrigation interests and allowing injustices to occur during its tenure. “It was during KCR’s rule that Telangana suffered the most water loss,” Uttam stated.

He reaffirmed that the current government is fully committed to completing irrigation projects, including the Tummidihatti barrage, for which a Detailed Project Report (DPR) is already being prepared. Uttam emphasized that the Congress government stands firm on protecting Telangana’s irrigation and river water entitlements.
