Nusrat refused government job after the hijab controversy in Bihar, as the AYUSH doctor failed to join her assigned post even after getting a 10-day extension. Health officials said she was posted at Sabalpur Primary Health Centre in Patna but did not report for duty by the final deadline.
The Bihar health department had earlier extended the joining date to give her more time. However, officials confirmed that no communication came from Nusrat or her family during this period. As a result, the department treated her appointment as declined.
The case drew public attention after a video from an appointment letter ceremony went viral. The clip showed Chief Minister Nitish Kumar removing Nusrat’s hijab, which sparked a political and social debate across the state.
While 63 other AYUSH doctors joined their postings on time, Nusrat remained absent. Officials said the department has not granted any further extension.
The incident continues to trigger discussions on personal dignity, religious freedom, and workplace conduct. For now, Nusrat refused government job status stands, unless she submits a formal explanation under special rules.
