Official Calls for Transparent Urea Distribution to Boost Farmers’ Confidence
The Special Chief Secretary of the Agriculture and Cooperation Department has emphasised the need for transparency in urea distribution to build farmers’ confidence and ensure timely availability of essential inputs. During a review meeting in Vijayawada, the official examined various issues related to the supply of urea, as well as the procurement of pulses such as red gram and black gram by the Andhra Pradesh State Cooperative Marketing Federation (MARKFED) and other agencies.
Officials highlighted challenges in distribution logistics, stock management, and timely delivery to farmers. The Special Chief Secretary instructed department officials to strengthen monitoring mechanisms, streamline the supply chain, and address bottlenecks to ensure that urea reaches farmers efficiently, particularly during the sowing season.
He also stressed the importance of efficient pulse procurement to support farmers’ incomes and maintain market stability. The review concluded with directives to coordinate closely with MARKFED and district authorities, promote transparency, and implement measures that reinforce farmers’ trust in government schemes and agricultural support systems.
