Oracle to Manage TikTok Algorithm for U.S. Users
Under a Trump-era deal, Oracle will control TikTok’s algorithm for U.S. users to address security concerns. Oracle will get a licensed copy of TikTok’s recommendation engine from ByteDance, TikTok’s Chinese parent, and retrain it using only U.S. data.
This move aims to prevent Chinese influence on TikTok’s U.S. operations. Oracle will oversee code reviews, data security, and the retraining process. ByteDance will keep less than 20% ownership in the new setup.
The deal requires approval from U.S. and Chinese regulators. An executive order is expected soon to finalize the joint venture within 120 days.
This arrangement is part of broader U.S. efforts to ensure data security and reduce foreign risks in popular apps.
