Islamabad: Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir are expected to meet US President Donald Trump on September 25 during the UN General Assembly in New York, Pakistan’s Khyber News reported.
According to the report, the two leaders will hold wide-ranging talks with Trump. The agenda is likely to cover Pakistan’s devastating floods, fallout of the Israeli strike on Qatar, and rising diplomatic tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad.
So far, neither Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations nor its embassy in Washington has confirmed the meeting. However, the report comes shortly after Munir’s two visits to Washington in recent months.
US-Pakistan Ties Revived
Relations between Washington and Islamabad have warmed after years of friction. In June, Trump welcomed Munir at the White House and discussed trade, economic development, and cryptocurrency. A month later, the US announced a new trade deal with Pakistan, promising help in developing its “massive oil reserves.”
Islamabad also credited Trump for mediating a truce with India during their military standoff in May, though New Delhi strongly denied his claim.
More recently, Pakistan secured $500 million in US investment for its critical minerals sector. Analysts say the upcoming meeting at UNGA could further strengthen ties.
