Under its ongoing campaign against drug trafficking, Punjab Police carried out a major operation on Friday. Conducting raids at 284 locations across the state, the police arrested 79 drug peddlers. A total of 69 FIRs were registered during the drive. From the possession of the accused, police recovered 1.2 kilograms of heroin, 2 kilograms of ganja, 519 intoxicant tablets, and ₹18,300 in drug money.
According to officials, the operation continued throughout the day, with special teams conducting search operations in several hotspot areas. Along with arrests, police also checked 301 suspicious individuals. A significant aspect of the campaign focused on motivating drug users toward rehabilitation. As part of this effort, 29 individuals agreed to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment.
Conducted under the Punjab government’s anti-drug policy, this action aims to uproot drug trafficking networks and protect the youth from addiction. Police officials stated that similar large-scale operations will continue in the coming days.
