The Patna Fatuha encounter took place on Wednesday evening in Sirpatpur village under the Fatuha police station area. Police received a tip-off that several criminals had gathered with weapons and ammunition. Officers quickly reached the spot and surrounded the area to stop them.
When the police tried to arrest the suspects, the criminals attempted to escape and reportedly pointed their weapons at officers. Police then fired in self-defence during the Patna Fatuha encounter. One criminal, identified as Sundaram Singh alias Bhola, suffered a bullet injury in his leg.
Police arrested three accused during the operation. Officers also recovered a country-made pistol and more than 1,200 live cartridges from the group.
The injured accused was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police officials said the arrested suspects belong to an inter-district criminal gang. Authorities have started an investigation to find the source of the weapons and the crime the group planned.
