Tension rose on Wednesday as Phagwara observed a complete bandh. Markets, shops and commercial areas remained shut after the armed attack on Tuesday evening. According to police, six assailants—including Tanish alias Binda and Sunil of Balmiki Mohalla—allegedly intercepted the father–son duo near Gaushala Bazar and launched a violent assault, followed by gunfire meant to terrorise the public.

SSP Gaurav Toora, SP Madhvi Sharma and DSP Bharat Bhushan reached the hospital and the crime scene. They assured supporters that police teams were pursuing every lead and promised swift arrests. Extra forces were deployed across the city to maintain calm.

Hindu organisations gathered at the hospital and expressed serious concern over what they called a worsening law-and-order situation. Local leaders, including MLA Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal and Mayor Ram Paul Uppal, urged decisive government action.

The Bar Association led by Advocate Ravinder Sharma also observed a “no-work day” in support of the bandh. Residents demanded safety and justice as investigations continued.
