Philippines Declares State of Emergency After Typhoon Kalmaegi Devastation
The Philippines has declared a state of emergency after Typhoon Kalmaegi left at least 241 people dead or missing, causing widespread destruction across several provinces. The powerful storm brought torrential rains, flash floods, and landslides that devastated communities, uprooted trees, and damaged infrastructure. Thousands of homes were destroyed, and power and communication lines remain down in many affected areas. Rescue operations are underway as authorities struggle to reach remote villages cut off by floodwaters. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered immediate relief and rehabilitation efforts, deploying military and emergency teams to assist survivors. Kalmaegi moved away from western Palawan province into the South China Sea before noon on Wednesday (November 5) and is now heading toward Vietnam, according to forecasters. Officials warned that rebuilding could take months as the nation grapples with one of its deadliest storms in recent years.
