Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said India and the United States are working quickly to finalize their trade negotiations. His remarks are seen as a key step toward easing India-US trade tensions.

Replying to Donald Trump’s post on X, PM Modi said, “India and the US are close friends and natural partners. I am confident our trade negotiations will unlock the limitless potential of the India-US partnership. Our teams are working to conclude these discussions at the earliest.” He also said he looks forward to speaking with the US President soon.

Trump reposted Modi’s message on Truth Social, describing Modi as a “very good friend.” He expressed confidence that the talks will reach a successful conclusion. “I feel certain there will be no difficulty for both of our great countries,” Trump wrote.

This softening tone comes after weeks of tension. Trump had earlier doubled tariffs on Indian goods, accusing New Delhi of profiting from Russian oil trade. He even suggested the EU impose tariffs of up to 100% on India.

Still, both leaders now appear willing to ease India-US trade tensions and secure a stronger partnership.
