Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Tarique Rahman after his party won the Bangladesh elections. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) claimed a decisive victory in the first national polls held after the violent uprising in 2024.
In his message, Mr. Modi wished Mr. Rahman success and said India looks forward to working closely with the new government. He stressed the importance of strong ties between India and Bangladesh for regional peace, security, and development.
The elections were closely watched because they followed a period of political unrest and protests that led to major changes in Bangladesh’s leadership. The BNP said the results show that people wanted change and stability.
India and Bangladesh share close cultural and economic ties. The new government is expected to focus on rebuilding the economy and restoring political stability after the recent turmoil.
