Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday praised India’s Northeast, calling it the nation’s “forward face” instead of just a frontier. He responded to an article by Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, who shared his experiences from visiting Assam and Meghalaya. The Prime Minister said the piece beautifully highlights the spirit and potential of the region.
In his article, Scindia described the Northeast as “Ashtalakshmi,” symbolising prosperity and strength. He wrote that improved connectivity is turning the region into India’s gateway to Southeast Asia. The minister mentioned that the natural beauty, warmth, and resilience of the people left a deep impact on him.
Scindia credited Prime Minister Modi’s leadership for transforming the Northeast into a hub of connectivity, culture, and commerce. He said that Modi’s vision has turned challenges into opportunities, driving inclusive development and regional pride. The minister added that the region is shifting from being landlocked to land-linked.
During his visit to Meghalaya, Scindia toured the Mushroom Development Centre in Upper Shillong. He noted that the centre produces 1.5 lakh mushroom blocks annually, boosting rural livelihoods and promoting self-reliance. The minister praised local farmers for their entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to growth.
