PM Modi: Sardar Patel Wanted to Unite Entire Kashmir with India
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel had envisioned the complete integration of Jammu and Kashmir with India, but was not allowed to do so by then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Speaking at the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas celebrations marking Patel’s birth anniversary, Mr. Modi hailed the Iron Man’s role in uniting more than 560 princely states after Independence. The Prime Minister asserted that Patel’s vision of national unity continues to inspire India’s progress and strength. He also paid floral tributes at the Statue of Unity and led the “Run for Unity” event, emphasizing the importance of oneness and integrity in nation-building. Rashtriya Ekta Diwas has been observed nationwide on October 31 since 2014, when Mr. Modi’s government instituted the day to honour Patel’s enduring contribution to India’s unity.
